This Vancouver native graduated from the Seattle Thunderbirds Jrs. in 1981 but was not drafted by any NHL team and opted for a four-year stint playing in Holland. He played briefly in Edmonton and Pittsburgh before being dealt to the Blackhawks in Feb. 89. He played the full 89-90 season in the Windy City, scoring 7-4-11 in 61 games while racking up 303 minutes in penalties. On Oct. 1/90, he was picked up in the NHL waiver draft by the Nordiques and played two seasons with Quebec before retiring as a pro at the conclusion of the 1991-92 season. Van Dorp resides in Coquitlam and is a very active member of the Canucks alumni hockey team. He is involved in the trucking business.
