John Grisdale was born in the tiny northern Ontario town of Gerldton, but moved to Toronto at an early age where he played minor hockey. After attending Michigan Tech University (with fellow alumnus Bob Murray), he turned pro with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 1973-74, he had a fine season with Leafsǃ٠top farm club, Tulsa, where he was rewarded by being named the CHLǃÙs Top Defenceman. In October, 1974, he was traded to Vancouver along with Garry Monahan for fellow defenceman Dave Dunn, and spent the rest of his six-year NHL career in a Canucks uniform. As a Canucks, ǃ?Grizzyǃ? played 199 games, scoring three goals and 32 assists for 35 points with 266 penalty minutes. An avid golfer, he travelled to Scotland this past summer with a group of fellow enthusiasts. John is currently the very busy commissioner of the BC Junior Hockey League.
