Darcy Rota was Chicagos 1st round draft pick (13th overall) following a great junior career in Edmonton, where he led the Western League with 73 goals in 1972-73. He played six seasons with the Hawks and two more with Atlanta before an eight-player deal brought him to Vancouver (Feb. 18/80). He played five seasons for the Canucks, scoring 236 points in 289 games between 1980 and 1984. Career highlights includes his trip to the Stanley Cup finals in 1982 and a 42-goal, 81-point performance in 1982-83, club-record totals for a left winger which still stand. All told, Darcy played 11 seasons and had totals of 794 games played, 256 goals and 239 assists for 495 points. He retired prematurely in 1984 at age 31 due to a career-threatening neck injury. Darcy is an accomplished golfer who is a close friend of Canadian touring pro Dave Barr. He currently manages the Burnaby Express hockey team in the BC junior league, reigning national champions of the Royal Bank Cup.
