The Canucks selected ǃ?Butchǃ? in the first round (10th overall) in the 1981 Entry Draft from the Regina Pats where heǃÙd been a junior all star in 1981 and 1982. He went on to a fine nine-year career with the Canucks, scoring 33 goals and 107 assists for 140 points while setting a team record for penalty minutes (since broken by Gino Odjick) with 1,668. In the early ǃÚ90s, he went on to play three seasons with the St. Louis Blues and parts of two more campaigns with Quebec and Toronto before retiring as a player after the 1994-95 season. All told, he played 897 NHL contests over 14 seasons. He now resides near Bellingham, WA from where he is the director of that cityǃÙs minor hockey program. His son, Matt, plays in the BCHL.
