A relative youngster with the Canucks Alumni, Bill Ranford retired as an NHL goalie at the conclusion of the 1999-2000 season. A star junior with the New Westminster Bruins, the Brandon, MB, native was drafted by Boston in the 1985 Entry Draft. After only 45 appearances with the Bruins, he was dealt to the Edmonton Oilers where he spent the bulk of his illustrious 14-year career, winning the Stanley Cup in both 1988 and 1990. During the 1990 playoffs, Ranford played in all 22 Oiler games, recording 16 wins and earning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. In Jan. 96, he was traded back to the Bruins for two seasons, went to Washington for two campaigns, then wound down his career with brief stints in Tampa Bay, Detroit, and finally back in Edmonton. He now enjoys skating as a forward with the alumni team and lives a short distance from Queens Park Arena in New Westminster. He is also an enthusiastic member of the Canucks Alumni board of directors.
