In 1957, he won the Western League rookie award with the Canucks and two seasons later, made the NHL for good with the parent New York Rangers. Over the next 10 seasons, he played for Boston, Toronto and the Rangers again before the NHL Canucks selected him in the 1970 Expansion Draft. He was Vancouvers first team captain and was voted team MVP in each of his first three seasons. He retired prematurely in 1974 due to a back ailment and turned to coaching, first in the minors, then with the Canucks (1976 to 1978).
