Gerry OǃÙFlaherty is from a hockey family and was born in Pittsburgh where his dad John (Peanuts) OǃÙFlaherty was playing at the time. When the Canucks entered the NHL in 1970, the elder OǃÙFlaherty signed on as the fledgling teamǃÙs chief scout and, in 1972, Gerry was claimed in the Intra-League Draft from Toronto. ǃ?Flapperǃ?, as he was affectionately known, went on to play six seasons with the Canucks, scoring 98-95-193 in 435 games, including three consecutive 20+ goal seasons between ǃÙ73 and ǃÙ76. Upon his retirement as a player, he returned to the Vancouver area where he owned and operated an auto muffler shop. A longtime director of the alumni association and western scout for the Montreal Canadiens, he sits on the selection committee that chooses successful candidates for the Canucks scholarship program to UBC.
