Following a junior career with the Regina Pats, Gary turned pro with Charlotte of the Eastern Hockey League and then signed as a free agent with Buffalo. He played six seasons in the Sabres chain before opting for two terms in the World Hockey Association with Calgary and Winnipeg. He returned to the NHL when Canuck GM Jake Milford signed him as a free agent on May 23, 1978. He played three full seasons with the Canucks before retiring as a player in 1981. During his playing days, at 5-foot-10 and just 160 pounds, Gary earned the nickname ǃ?Bonesǃ?. All told, he played 136 NHL games, earned seven shutouts and had a career GAA of 3.43. Now a Vancouver firefighter, Gary is an avid member of the Canucks Alumni team on which heǃÙs a forward most nights.
