Originally the first round pick (2nd overall) of Winnipeg in 1980, Dave Babych played parts of six seasons with the Jets, then six more with Hartford before spending seven seasons with the Canucks. He is one of only three players (Bill Gadsby and Joe Mullen are the others) to have played 300 games or more with three different NHL teams. He finished his playing career with brief stints in Philadelphia and Los Angeles, his last season being 1998-99. He played 409 games for the Canucks, scoring 23-131-154. Babych remains the only Canuck defenceman ever to score a regular-season hat trick, performing the feat on Nov. 22/91 during a 6-5 win over Calgary. His three goals included the overtime winner. All told, he played 1,195 NHL games with totals of 142-581-723. He began playing with the Canucks Alumni team during the winter of 2004-05. He and his family now reside in North Vancouver where he is very active in coaching minor hockey.
